Horticulture Workshops and Events- February 2024

In February, the UF/IFAS Extension Clay County Master Gardeners and Horticulture Agent have plenty of opportunities for you to learn and increase your gardening skills! Here are some upcoming classes and events.

  • UF/IFAS Extension Clay County Master Gardener Volunteers host a help desk every month of the Orange Park Farmers Market at the Orange Park Town Hall at the corner of Kingsley and Route 17. The event runs from 10am to 3pm and it is usually held on the first Sunday of each month. Come visit us on Sunday February 4th with your plant questions!
  • On February 20th, Wayne Hobbs will be teaching “Horticulture Happy Hour: Citrus” at our office from 6pm to 8pm. This will include learning about growing citrus in Florida, it’s importance to our state, and then how to use citrus to create delicious beverages. This includes sampling citrus juices, mocktails, and some infused simple syrup to take home and try. Tickets are $15 and available at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/horticulture-happy-hour-citrus-tickets-796953909597?aff=oddtdtcreator  .
  • On Monday, February 26th we are also hosting our monthly How-To workshop at our office from 11:30am to 12:30pm. The topic for February is “How to Control Weeds” and this event is free to attend at our office at 2463 SR16W, Green Cove Springs, FL 32043.
  • Online courses are also becoming available, with the first being “Florida Vegetable Gardening for Beginners”. This fully online class will teach you how to plan and care for a vegetable garden in Northeast Florida. To register, visit https://ifas-clay.catalog.instructure.com/courses/florida-vegetable-gardening-for-beginners , this is a self-paced course with a $10 fee.

Also, while not being directly hosted by our office our volunteers and agent are out teaching throughout the community throughout the year. This includes Garden Clubs, Day of Gardening events, other Master Gardener groups, and in different social and community clubs. If you would like to inquire about having a speaker at your next gardening related event, please reach out to Wayne Hobbs at whhobbs@ufl.edu. Happy gardening!
